ITI Group’s Darren Glover appointed to the InstMC Committee

ITI Group’s Operations Director, Darren Glover, has joined the Institute of Measurement and Control (InstMC) Central Northwest section committee, primarily to help develop and support emerging engineers.

The InstMC is also hugely valuable for making connections and networking with industry peers, and for understanding the new developments in measurement and control technology, which helps our engineering teams to provide the best safety and control solutions to our clients.

Darren started his career with JCB as an Engineering Apprentice and over the subsequent 15 years worked his way up through the business, gaining hands-on experience of numerous functions, including design & development, sales, project management, manufacturing, and operations management; with his last position leading a large team delivering special projects and continuous improvement initiatives.

He joined ITI Group as Head of Business Unit of the Sheffield office delivering safety and control solutions to the company’s well-established Oil & Gas client base. Now, three years on he has progressed to Operations Director for the Safety and Control division, serving not only the Energy sector but also the Nuclear and Industrial sectors across several offices across the UK.

Darren is ideally placed to represent ITI Group as the combination of his technical background and strong interpersonal skills mean he is well respected by the company’s own engineering teams, so he will be able to bring this same integrity and enthusiasm to the InstMC’s endeavours.

Darren explained that a huge part of his motivation to join the committee was around the development of new engineers:

“We are seeing a global shortage of competent engineers entering the Mechanical and Electrical fields, so it’s vital that we inspire the next generation to enter the rewarding world of engineering and keep driving the industry forward. I started my career on an apprenticeship, which I strongly believe is one of the best ways into industry, and engineering has given so much to me over the years, so I felt it was time to give back; without the opportunities I was given and the people who mentored me during my early career I wouldn’t be where I am now.

“The Institute of Measurement and Control (InstMC) plays a critical role in supporting so many engineers in the industry and encouraging young people to embark on a career in engineering, so what better way to encourage the next generation and share awareness across the industry than being involved with an institution like the InstMC.”

Having built strong relationships with colleagues, clients and suppliers alike, Darren’s place on the committee should be of great benefit to the InstMC, allowing ITI Group to repay the benefits we’ve seen over the years, and hopefully helping them to innovate and grow.
