Our History

A story of innovation and transformation.

Enhancing the future of industry since 1972

As one of the UK’s largest fully-independent systems integrators, we’ve grown to develop teams in strategic locations across the UK, Europe and North America.

We deliver transformation and innovation, to enhance the future of industry.

Through digital intelligence, industrial automation, and increased security. Providing robust hardware, smart software, and innovative solutions that are mission-critical.

Trust. Engineered by our past.

Industry experience is just one reason why we are chosen to support ambitious operators and blue chip companies around the world.

Originally formed in 1972 to provide software and electronic solutions to industrial markets, we quickly moved into the rapidly expanding UK Oil & Gas sector. The business began to service onshore and offshore assets on the UK Continental Shelf and in 1985 opened an office in Aberdeen.

As the business continued to grow, a new nuclear office was opened in 2012 in Warrington, at the heart of the UK’s nuclear industry, with a focus on enhancing the level of service to the nuclear industry. In the same year we were awarded an MOD contract for the nuclear submarine base at Faslane.

Our experience instils trust in the software we design, and the hardware we manufacture. Trust in the systems we build, the data we capture, and the clarity it provides. Trust in our people, to work hard, deliver their best, and provide sound judgement in crucial moments.

A future enhanced by our agility.

Today, industry benefits from our agility – which we’ve engineered as we’ve grown.

We offer the support and experience of a large, established organisation with the spirit and energy of a small company.

We’re one of the leading independent systems integrators in the UK. From our offices in Sheffield, Alcester, Aberdeen, Glasgow, Warrington, Whitehaven, Saltaire and now Toronto – we deliver on a local level, to leading operators in energy, nuclear and manufacturing industries.

We are proven at delivering cross-sector solutions, updates, and modifications to existing infrastructure, working with many leading critical industry operators.

We are also leading the way in transformative solutions, harnessing latest technologies to meet sustainability goals, lower operational costs, increase productivity, improve safety and mitigate risk.

Now and in the future, we’ll continue to be industrious in our efforts to make a difference to our clients, and enhance the future of industry.

This is our story.

Our Digital Operations business started life as Scomagg in 1972, providing software and electronic solutions to industrial markets.

Our Safety and Control Solutions arm originally started out in 1977, initially to serve the Sheffield steel industry but soon moved into the energy and infrastructure markets.

Today the business is one of the leading digital transformation partners in the UK and North America, with seven offices and over 200 employees.
